When I first heard of it, I thought it was a souped-up alarm clock. It’s about the size of a dash-mounted GPS with a 3″ x 2″ color LCD screen. It connects to your WiFi network and displays “widgets.”

What’s a Chumby? Well, I’m glad you asked.

When I first heard of it, I thought it was a souped-up alarm clock. It’s about the size of a dash-mounted GPS with a 3″ x 2″ color LCD screen. It connects to your WiFi network and displays “widgets.”

A widget can be pretty much any visual/audio display. Content can be retrieved from the Internet, like a slideshow of photos from my Facebook account or the recent posts to icanhascheezburger.com. Or they can be simple, like this Retro Flip Clock:

Chumby can play music and video, like songs from your iPod or clips from YouTube. I’ve got mine setup to show photos, the weather and a few clocks so far. I’ll let you know what I think of it more after I’ve had some time to really use it.
