As a software developer I deal with “bugs” a lot. If you’re not familiar with the term: a bug is really anything that happens in your program that differs from how it was designed. In the worst case this is a crash, corruption or loss of data. More often a bug is just something a user can do with your program that falls outside of the “rules” you wrote.

I’ve been dealing with a lot of bugs in Wordabble as we’ve been beta testing the next release. Even after I published the release (yesterday) a few minor bugs have been discovered. That can be terribly frustrating… so when I stumbled across this video today it really put a smile on my face. A user of the new Tiger Woods PGA game had discovered a scenario where you could get Tiger to walk on water.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZ1st1Vw2kY

EA put together a brilliant response. It’s not just the “BLAH, we had a bug, so what” response that all developers love to give… they’ve turned it into a viral marketing spot. They can’t release an update to the game to fix this kind of thing, so their bug fix is to actually make Tiger Woods walk on water.

Absolutely brilliant!

I came across a poster today that I’m considering. I wouldn’t even try to find this signed by the actor … there’s no way it would be affordable.

Isn’t it creepy? He really played a good Joker. I wonder how many Jokers we’ll see this year at Halloween. Probably too many.

My first application that will (hopefully) be available on the iPhone and iPod Touch later this week is officially “In Review.” Apple accepts applications through a somewhat complicated process online and reviews them for who-knows-what. Hopefully to ensure that nothing malicious takes place in your application and more likely that it doesn’t show you extreme violence or nudity.

In case you haven’t heard me talking about it, the game is called Wordabble. It’s a tile-based word search game. You’re presented with a 5×5 grid of letters. You tap connecting letters to form words. Each letter has a point value and longer words are given a point multiplier.

Now that the game is in a “release” state — meaning it includes most of the must-have features, it’s easy to start to think of what to include in a future release. But, I think I’ll wait to see if there’s really any demand for an update.

I’ve contacted a lot of friends that have iPhones and made them swear to buy it… you know who you are I’ll be calling you the moment it’s for sale.

If you’re reading this and you have an iPhone or iPod Touch and I haven’t contacted you — let me know. I’d love to get your opinion on the game when it’s been released.

As you probably know, I’ve (almost) finished my kitchen… but there are still some things missing.

A few weeks ago I bought an All-Clad pan. It puts all of my other cookware to shame. It cooks so evenly, it’s a good weight, and the handle doesn’t get so hot it turns into a branding iron. I’ll probably slowly try to replace my pots and pans with higher quality cookware… and I’ll be looking at All-Clad first. (A side note for anyone interested: most All-Clad pans are stainless. I’ve always tried to go with non-stick. The “Emerilware” line of pots and pans are made by All-Clad but most are non-stick).

So, next up: a sweet set of kitchen knives. I’m familiar with most of the Bed Bath and Beyond brands: Wusthof, J.A. Henckels, Calphalon… And even in those main-stream brands you can spend anywhere from $120 - $500 on a block/set.

But I wonder… Where should I go to really check out a high quality selection? A while back I had considered getting the J.A. Henckels International Forged Synergy 16-Piece Knife Set, primarily because it was one of the highest rated on Amazon. The set is selling for $169. I’m willing to pay more than that for something of even higher quality. I just don’t know where to look. Should I piece together my own set? Is a 16-piece block overkill?

Any recommendations?
